Why We Are Doing This
At Lowcountry Power Pilates, our tagline is Achieve the Balance, Mind, Body and Spirit. We take that third word seriously. Spirit is not just about how you feel when you finish a session on the reformer. It is about who you are in the world and how you show up for others when they are hurting.
The earthquake victims in Columbia are facing an unimaginable amount of loss right now. Homes, belongings, and a sense of safety have all been disrupted in an instant. When we heard about the need, the answer from everyone here was simple: we do something. That is exactly the kind of community we have built together, and Dolly Day this Friday is our way of putting that community spirit into action.
We chose to call it Dolly Day because Dolly Parton herself has become a symbol of warmth, generosity, and showing up for people without hesitation. Those are values we recognize right here in our studio every single week. It felt like the perfect fit.
What to Expect on Dolly Day
All of your favorite classes will be running as scheduled on Friday. What will be different is the energy in the room and the opportunity to give. We encourage everyone to come dressed in a little Dolly spirit. Think rhinestones, boots, big hair, or anything that makes you smile. There are no rules except to have fun with it.
We will have a donation station set up at the front of the studio. Every dollar collected goes directly to support Columbia earthquake relief efforts. Whether you can give a little or a lot, every contribution matters and adds up when a community comes together the way ours does.
Our instructors, Catherine, Emily, Jill, Joanelle, Joyce, Kelly, and Wendy, are all in on this. Expect some extra warmth, maybe a little Dolly on the playlist, and a whole lot of heart in every session.
How Movement and Community Belong Together
One of the things I love most about running this studio is watching what happens when people who care about their own well-being also start caring deeply about the people around them. Movement has a way of opening that up. When you commit to taking care of your body, you naturally become more attuned to others. You notice. You reach out. You show up.
That is what Pilates, and really any intentional movement practice, does over time. It builds body awareness, yes. But it also builds presence and connection. The same focus you bring to your reformer work, the attention to breath, alignment, and how you feel in the moment, is the same quality of attention that makes you a thoughtful neighbor and a generous friend.
So on Friday, when you walk in wearing your Dolly finest and drop something in the donation jar, know that you are not stepping outside your practice. You are living it fully. This is exactly what Achieve the Balance, Mind, Body and Spirit looks like in real life. We are so proud of every single one of you.
A Note on Upcoming Schedule Changes
Before we close out this week’s post, a quick heads-up on some schedule adjustments coming later in the fall. Catherine will be on vacation for a stretch of dates beginning in late September and running into early October. Wendy and Jill will also be out for a day during that same general window. We will make sure you have all the coverage details and any substitution information ahead of time so your routine stays as smooth as possible.
As always, if you have questions about specific sessions during those dates, please reach out to us directly. We want to make sure no one misses a beat, literally or figuratively, while our team takes some well-deserved rest.
Now go find your rhinestones. We will see you Friday.
