What exactly is the Pilates method?
Pilates (pi-LAH-teez) was developed in the 1920s by Joseph H. Pilates. The method comprises more than five hundred controlled movements designed to lengthen, strengthen, and articulate the body without bulk. Each exercise asks for concentration, coordinated breath, and recruitment from the core outward. The full repertoire is taught on six pieces of equipment — Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, Tower, and Magic Circle.

Who are your clients?
Members come from every walk of life — recovering surgical patients, elite runners, working mothers, retirees, teenagers preparing for sport, and people who simply want to feel better in their own body. Twenty years of teaching has taught us that the work meets each person where they are.
- 03
Is Pilates right for me?
Almost always, yes — but begin with a private session so we can answer the question for your particular body. Mat classes use the floor; apparatus classes use spring resistance. We will recommend the right starting place after one conversation. As with any new exercise program, we ask that you check in with a healthcare professional first.

How is Lowcountry Power Pilates different from other studios?
Specialized training, classical lineage, and unhurried attention. Joyce has logged over six hundred training hours; every instructor on the floor is fully certified. The studio is small on purpose — group classes cap at four to six. You are seen, every cue is for you, and progress is built on what your body can verify.
- 05
Does Pilates really work?
Joseph Pilates wrote the answer in 1934: "In ten sessions you will feel the difference. In twenty sessions you will see the difference. In thirty sessions you will have a different body." The numbers hold. Members who train consistently for three months arrive at a body they did not know was theirs.
- 06
How often should I practice?
Two to three times a week is the threshold for visible change. Once a week maintains. Four times is for serious commitment. We will help you build the schedule that fits your life, not the other way around.
- 07
Do you offer introductory packages?
Yes — every new client begins with three private sessions. The introductory package is priced together and includes the orientation, the assessment, and the first foundational lessons. Call the studio to set yours up.
- 08
Can I speak with current members before signing up?
Absolutely. We are happy to put you in touch with a current member who has had a similar starting point — recovering from surgery, returning after children, training for a sport, addressing chronic pain. Ask when you call.
- 09
What is your cancellation policy?
Twenty-four hours' notice cancels without charge. Cancellations inside that window forfeit the session — the spring is set, the time is reserved, the instructor is here. We hold the line on this so the studio can keep promising real attention to everyone who comes through the door.

What should I wear and bring?
Comfortable, fitted athletic wear that lets us see how the body is moving. Grip socks are required on the apparatus — you can buy a pair from us at first session. Bring water. Everything else is provided.
